Who is Daok ?

What’s your take on the use of tinted eyewear - sunglasses etc - at the professional poker table?

I’m thinking I’ve maybe missed some conversations tbh. This thread is the first thread I’ve seen that mentions him playing poker, so from this comment I can only assume I’ve missed it being talked about elsewhere but also that tracks, because I don’t get through every thread on here so I just don’t have all the information.

Anyway, y’all ain’t gotta get along, but doxxing deff ain’t called for. I’d love for it to be all peace and love here <3

In the day, I used to be part of a card counting team in Vegas: we would have up to 20 counters and one "big player" who would sit down when a counter had a good table. Otherwise, it is obvious what you are doing, as a card counter bets small when the deck is bad and bets maximum when it turns in his favour. This all stopped on one day when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I was taken into the basement of the casino, photographed, then driven into the desert and made to dig my own grave. I was lying in it as they drove away. A not-so-subtle hit to stay away. In 24 hours, I was banned from every casino in the world. (They invented facial recognition.) Then I went back and asked if I could play poker (it's not against the house)... sure the greedy buggers said and the legend was born (I mean my apprenticeship began).

Btw, sorry to have to tell you, but unless you count cards (can't be done in NZ as they have shuffling machines), the mathematics are against you. The house has an edge, so you can't win long term.

I think glasses, hoodies, masks, and any attempt to cover the face should be banned. Tinted eyewear stops players from seeing pupil dilation, which can be a tell. Although I find players who try too hard to disguise one avenue of tells, inadvertently exaggerate others.

My strength is table talk, where I get into the heads of other players and make them play badly. Sometimes it's just a case of pissig them off, or embarrassing them when they're getting an at-the-table massage by a pretty girl by rubbing their nose into a sick bluff... there's no depth to my depravity. It's become such a habit, it occasionally bleeds into my real life. You may have noticed I sometimes say things on this forum that, although they are true, are phrased to seem incredulous and more than a little bit annoying to get a reaction. As the scorpion said to the frog: "It's in my nature".

I was in Vegas during the time Casino is set. I knew the real person that Joe Pesci's character was based on, Nicki Santoro. He once asked me to fix a game, which I refused to do (I didn't know him well then). He went berserk, made all sorts of threats. Then he calmed down, and we had a drink together. Said he admired my pluck. Then proceeded to describe the 27 people he had killed. "This one I stuck him in the eye, squealed like a pig" - this sort of thing. The next day, we played golf together - for some reason, I was a bit off that day, and he won rather easily.

Do you think that Joe Pesci did a good job of portraying him? The "am i funny?" scene ranks highly in my all time list.

Also are you talking about Anthony Spilotro? Nicki Santoro was a fictional character that was based on the mobster.
