Advice when miserable

This might not be the best place to ask. Asking your GP would be a better bet. GPs can help with everything from vitamin D supplements right up to a referral to a psychiatrist. Don't just say "She'll be right" and hope for the best, we're allowed to talk about mental health nowadays, but your GP is best placed to assess.

Second what Adrian said.

Talk to your GP, be honest and accurate.
Could be many things, including a depressive episode.
And from personal experience those both suck, and when they get out of hand extremely debilitating.
And a lot of people that don't think are prone to mental illness really are.
Can be anything from stress getting too much, to brain chemicals and just how you are wired ... or a combination.
If the feeling has persisted over a length of time (I recall 6 months being the 'magic' number quoted to me by doctors when the black dog visits me), and doesn't seem to be really linked to a particularly difficult life circumstance like the death of a loved one or break up of a long term relationship.
If combined with that you have suicidal ideation (thoughts, fantasies or actual contemplation of ending your own life) ... go see your GP as immediately as you can.

This can and does happen to even the strongest of people.
So don't see it as a sign of weakness, or an attack on your masculinity, we are all vulnerable sometimes and that's ok.
I know a giant of a man, who has been to war (literally) start to enter this sprial, so that at least made me feel not so 'pathetic' when it happened to a 'lesser' person (me).
Don't dwell in misery or the equally horrible, everything being bland and nothing being enjoyable (especially things that normally bring you joy).

Didn't say any of that to alarm you, but just to make you not just be complacent.
Kia kaha, take care of yourself, and as hard as it is reach out to those who care about you (you made the first step by asking randoms on the internet for advice, which means that you recognise there is a problem)
