I thought that this was interesting, the story starts in the sixth paragraph:

I am certainly guilty of enquiring about extras at supposedly legit shops, so far I believe that I've read the signs well enough that everyone that I've made a request to has, at least, quietly been providing extras. Sometimes they have been far more obvious in their offers. Some have required a couple of visits to "get to know me" before even hinting at extra services.

Most that work at the "legit" places seem to be on Work Visas at least, not the three month visitor visa that leaves them much more vulnerable.

Minimum wage is the key. How much do these foreign sex workers make after the handler's cut? Their living accommodation cost, etc? You will find that it's not a lot and the only ones that do well, are those that speak English well and can work and manage on their own.

The arrangements vary. I've said it before and I say it again the girls wouldn't do it if the numbers didn't add up. I have been told that the girl gets the biggest chunk of the fee. Roughly of the order of 2/3 to 1/3. There are some costs shared.

They do it because from where they're from, wages are a lot less. Otherwise you would see a flood of McDonalds female workers (locals here) getting into the escort game. AI says $23.15/hr minimum wage gets you annual pay of $48,168 for 2000 hours. The difference is escort workers don't do 2000 hours a year (that I know of?). Just throwing out some #s here to see in relative terms, the actual take these foreign workers are making. I'm sure a vast majority of them are well under utilised or might be lucky to see 1 or 2 clients a day sitting in the motel all the time.

1/3 to the shop what I've heard from a number of girls working in a suburban house setting. But of course the ones I've talked to about that are the more independent types, not the ones being shuffled in motels by handlers.

Regarding the first point, everyone who does SW does it because they see it as more lucrative than other options. Whether they are kiwi, asian, or whatever, the ones who decide to take it up are a small minority of the total workforce.

As for appointments per day, that obviously varies. I've only talked about this with a tiny sample of independent NZ residents and more independently-minded nonresidents. Some of the NZ residents are very busy. Others are not so much, but it supports their lifestyle well enough. The ambitious, independently-minded non-residents working in well-organised houses come here, and sometimes come back, because it gives them a significant cash boost that goes into their apartment, their business, their retirement nest egg and/or their family back home (an apartment in a modern Asian city it's cheap, getting a business up and running is not cheap...). The ones I've known aren't sitting around. For them it would not be worthwhile if it was just one or two clients a day.

Not ripping on you, just expanding on that point.

We should all remember that most of the generalizations we all make here are only ever based on statistically insignificant sample sizes, of girls we have spoken to, out of the pool of particular types of girls we are attracted to and have the budget for, in the geographical areas where we spend most of our time.

Therefore, the truthful answers we truly get will mostly just confirm our own initial biases. So we should beware of simply regurgitating them here even though we "know" from our own experiences that they are "true".

e.g. I almost invariably visit girls at reputable agencies or with good reviews. That is true. I have NEVER experienced B&S. That is also true. So I could post here, and pass a lie detector test, that there no B&S in Wellington. I'd be wrong. But I'd be 100% honest about the situation as I see it.

Exactly. Obviously there will be a small percentage of outliers but human beings are mostly rational actors.

Lets for argument sake say the girls come from China. We have no idea of their personal circumstances at home, but could 'assume' that on the basis they have chosen to come to a foreign country and undertake work that in the majority of cases they would be unfamiliar with must be more lucrative (or promise to be) than the income they can derive at home.

When the money they earn is converted back to their own currency it's got a lot more buying power back home than the NZD amount here for sure. That's both a good and bad thing though.

Migrant workers can be set up to work over here by someone "assisting" them, running the phone and sorting the ad etc, and then they take a huge cut for doing so. The money they take back after working is still a decent amount so it incentives her to come back or for other women to do the same but it's still exploitative because means the person that was assisting them can continue to take an unfairly large amount of the earnings.

On the one hand, it's great that the ladies can come over, work for a while, and leave with a decent amount of money for her efforts. On the other hand, it would be a whole lot better (and fairer) if she were able to keep a bigger share of the money she earned. The folks taking that big chunk of her money can have a "well it's still a lot of money for her even if I take this much" attitude which morally stinks imo.

It seems by the # of review posts and response by punters seeing the Chinese working girls along Riccarton Road, that indeed they don't get a larger portion of the pay. There is a base rate to pay for the motel accommodation but they don't really start earning unless punters are paying for VIP prices.

Those that can speak English well can do without any handlers and go solo. They would earn the most!

I think (admittedly based on rather small sampling) that most of the Asians who work independently in ChCh are residents (Jojo, Dodo, and others touring, Chelsea Phoenix when she lived here). There may be some from places like Singapore, Hong Kong, etc whose English is good enough. Of course, they then need to pay for the motel, the advertising, and the travel. And keep track of their bookings...

I dont like the handler supposition because honestly I don't think it truly represents any operating model. SBQ introduced that idea and I think it is flawed.
Moving onto the Motel scenario. I've seen several SW at Motels over like 5 years. All private. All regulars. The cost model was rent a unit on a weekly basis. One downside for a private at a motel is security. Not so bad if there are 2 to a 2 bedroom unit.
Very likely there are other situations where there is a team construct. Maybe a phone Admin type. Might be the handlers SBQ talks about. Who knows it could be the motel office.
Regards Chinese transient SWs in NZ the only part where I see extra cost to the SW is the other end in China.

Were some of those non-residents? The girls I've seen in motels have all been private and all been residents (Jojo, Dodo, etc).

Yes, that is certainly something they worry about.

Several years ago, one girl mentioned she paid a "finders fee" to get her connected with one of the local networks. IIRC, she mentioned a figure that was several thousand dollars. Not so different from the stories you hear about migrant workers in other professions. (Note to Harry H: sample of one :ROFLMAO:)

Is that the sort of thing you mean?
