Parking Fines

Yeap, i got pinged there on a punt a while back. They do have an obvious sign at the gate saw but figured i should be ok as was "visiting". I emailed them stating i was visiting one of their guests in room blah blah and was only there for an hour and they waived the fine. Haven't had the same problem at any of the other motels down there but i tend to try find parking on the road if i can

I didnt even contact the parking company, went straight to the motel and got a reply back in 24 hours saying they would cancel it and then got the same from the company that monitors it for them.
They make good income from renting the rooms out to the workers so reckon there should be punter park like johnnymac suggested 🤣

Here’s. pro tip for parking fines. Unless it’s a parking fine from the city council don’t pay it.

What you do instead is google vtnz opt out.

Follow the instructions and revoke the right for them to give out your personal information to 3rd party’s. Meaning only the police and the ccc can access your data from your vehicle license plate.
Company’s like Wilson’s parking are toothless without this information.. they pay to access the database.

They literally can’t do shit if you don’t pay it as they don’t have any idea where to send the fine.

Now don’t say I don’t do anything for you fucks ok 😘

Would add that Wilson's and their agent Parking Enforcement Services are paper tigers. They rely on people just paying the ticket, options:

Go to the business and complain about the ticket, generally the business will have a process to cancel a ticket.

The vtnz opt-out above. But do it now, once you get a ticket notice your data might have leaked.

Tell Wilson's / Parking Enforcement that you dispute the infringement (timing / sinage....) and they should sue you in the tribunal. They won't, takes too much time and money.

Private parking enforcement is marginally legal and the people running it are twats - don't pay so called infringement.

The Wilson / Parking Enforcemet is a reprehensible business model - good to see them fail a few times.

My neighbour works for a competing private parking lot company like Wilsons and he tells me all the angles and secrets they do. Opting out of the VTNZ database does nothing as they record their own database (full camera footage on side). Your vehicle make model etc is recorded. He told me that when he drives around the parking lot, their camera uses AI and taps into their database to see if they have any outstanding fines. When there is one, he brings out the wheel clamps. So when the car owner comes back and wants the wheel clamp removed, he/she has to pay up. Thinking of going to a different parking lot? Well Wilsons for eg is everywhere and all their parking lots are tied into their database meaning, at any time you park in one of their parking lots and have outstanding fines, they will wheel clamp your car. The question is how much do you value parking at their spots in the future if you refuse to pay?

So they can only tell by the plate and if you have had an existing ticket at some stage?

If you changed your plates this would no longer be an issue if you opt out of the VTNZ database before you get a ticket on the new plates? Would they have the authority to clamp you just on the plate alone without any details linked to that plate?

Always find a park and never been clamped (just sayin') ...

Hahaha are you off the VTNZ database?

I don’t owe any money but Wilson’s and I have come to a few disagreements and I’d rather avoid any tickets from them, I even paid for an extra hour once to avoid a fine and still managed to get one forgot to get an eticket so had no leg to stand on. Also given it is all AI generated now so 1min past your time and your cooked.

Sorry I wasn’t very clear in what I was asking…. you said they can access your details based on your plate that you have already received a parking fine for. My question was if you change your plates, and do the information exempt form with VTNZ and don’t have any fines current or previous to that rego then they won’t be able to find your details?

I think the answer to your question is yes. If you opt into the VTNZ private list, your information is presumptively private, hence accessing that information would require a compelling argument.

Note that for those not on the VTNZ private list, your personal information - via your registration plate - is available to around 3,000 companies/organisations.

The other point is that Wilson’s etc cannot impose penalty/punitive fines, that privilege is restricted to territorial authorities - city councils. So if you park in a Wilson’s $10/hr car park, for two hours without paying, they can’t legally slap you with say a $200 fine. If they do, you should advise them that penalty fines are outside their prerogative, and offer to pay them $30 - two hour parking, plus $10 for their administration.

All, Opting out does nothing ref Wilsons On

you will find a link to an OIA response which shows that Wilson's do have access even if you opt out.

It's all worth reading as it contains good information on how to dispute

And it's the NZTA database. Nothing to do with VTNZ

You answered LaraX's question. Opting out does nothing as i've done this before on my rego plates and all various WOF places still can look up my car details and my address using my rego plate #. My neighbour who works for these parking places also said told me the same that the online optingn out does not hide your details.
