I’m an irregular punter because I can’t regularly afford to punt but also I get so scared of picking up an std. guess I’m a bit of a germaphobe.

Does anyone have any relieving thoughts or feelings regarding this?
Alternatively has anyone struggled with picking up or sharing a sexual health problem from experiences with sex workers?

The risk is always there. You can compare it to having lots of casual sex. The more sexual partners you have, the more chance there is for something to go wrong. It’s the nature of the game.

Working girls fuck for a living, so they have sex with more guys than probably any other group out there. Plus, they travel the world doing it. Many have worked in high-risk countries. All of this is true.

In saying that, escorts are just as (if not more) incentivised as you to avoid getting sick. They’re also financially harmed if they do. This is a double-edged sword: they take precautions to not get sick but if they do, they could be incentivised to look the other way to earn a living.

So, us punters acknowledge the risk and make our own judgements and take our own precautions.

Some of us only get massages, others won’t see girls who even so much as hint at offering ******* services, some only see younger escorts who will have had less time in the industry to catch anything, some only see people who exclusively work domestically or work for reputable agencies who test regularly etc.

There are ways to mitigate the risks, but you can never eliminate them.

You're unlikely to catch anything in NZ. I've been doing this 20 years with the odd mishap, slip up or poor decision and never caught anything .... yet. Although that does not mean the risks don't exist. There's always risk. The big one is obviously hiv and that's a given...but actually somewhat hard to get as an 'insertive' partner believe it or not (male privilege is real with that one ). The next biggie is hepatitis b which will actually mess you up more than hiv these days but you can get vaxxed against that for a cost of around 70 bucks per jab, 3 jab cycle. I am, I suggest the rest of you filthy buggers do too

Then there's all the 'hurts to piss' others that can mostly get nixxed by a shot of antibiotics - although antibiotic resistance is rising - or the ones most of us have anyway and condoms don't protect against.

Relax, wear a raincoat, have fun, you'll be sweet. If an accident happens or you make a silly decision, get tested, you'll likely still be sweet. Sex workers in NZ for the most part take care of themselves and get tested regularly.
