All relative though, the Min wage in the US Federally is around 7.50 an hour and some states, it is as "high" as $15

It's true that there is a pathetically low minimum wage in the US. It is very difficult to compare wages and prices in different countries, but wages and salaries in decent jobs tend to be higher (in converted NZD terms). So thinking of 100USD as being a similar cost to a US worker as 100NZD to an NZ worker isn't completely out of line.
