BOTS - The Other Disruptive Factor

I am sure like me you find the daily invasion of a new BOT or fake profile polluting the forum to be both annoying and inconvenient.
But the other thing that occurred to me today (it has probably already occurred to many of you) is by bumping multiple threads once or twice every day the whole chronology of the threads is totally disrupted. Older, and less popular threads suddenly get bumped to the top and others disappear from ready view. For sure they can be retrieved and rebumped to the top, but I'll bet this does not always happen. In any event the order such as it was is gone.
Which makes me think, are these bots (or fake profiles) the brainchild of some disenfranchised punter/WG just looking to create chaos on this site or some international spam factory originating from somewhere like Russia? Just seems curious it is so prevalent here, but from what I can see the other site is not being afflicted by this/these pernicious invader(s). Bearing in mind there are not many over there that would notice anyway.
