Ok so last week we have a businessman in court on assault charges. End result was he was acquitted. They had been out drinking got home and there was a bit of a ruckus between them. The man says the woman was the aggressor.
Man was found not guilty. Now the poor bastard has got a fight on his hands to keep his name suppressed. Why FFS ? Bearing in mind the woman who made the allegations remains anonymous.
The businessman says publishing his name will harm his business.
Double standards. If they name him they should name her as well.
Justice system seems weighted against males.
Just like the women the other week who performed sex acts on an under age boy. She got 10 months home detention. And she wasn't added to the sex offenders register
Male would have gone to jail and been labelled a pedophile.

This is absolute disgusting and our current justice system needs an overhaul, soomany things going through the system that really makes you wonder what the hell is going on.The law is biased in soo many ways, the system is out of control and people wonder why there's ongoing shootings, stabbings and assaults that is no end as there's no deterrent.
There too many PC Joes that think every one can be rehabilitatable.
Judges need to be held accountable for re-offenders.

'2 swallows don't make a summer'

Providing very limited and highly likely to be biased detail of 2, by the look of it complex cases, from the court system then making broad statements about what they represent is form of propaganda.
Frankly the idea that just because someone is rich is a good reason for suppression to me is nonsense, and frankly shows a big bias on your part.
Does you moral outrage change if the guy was a labourer? How about that for a double standard.

Need to learn difference between anecdote and data in logic mate.

Name suppression isn't automatic if you've been found not guilty, which remember is a good thing.
If I was charged with a crime and found not guilty I'd welcome my name being published establishing this widely on the public record.
You have to provide a convincing reason to the court to overcome the freedom to the press to report on the courts. The poster used as an reason - "The businessman says publishing his name will harm his business."
Why does this in itself overcome the freedom of the press?
It doesn't.

The lady admitted assaulting him. She bit him. The man said what he did was self defence. Perhaps he should have gone running to the cops and made an assault charge against her. This guy is a multi millionaire and businessman. Very likely if he was Wiremu from Mangere cops would've filed it as a domestic.

Well name suppression is determined by a judge.
So he has nothing to worry about if he has done nothing to deserve name suppression being revoked, then it won't be.
I am sure if he (or anyone else) feels that strongly about it he could seek name suppression revoked for the other combatant in this mutual combat.
Frankly I don't care if he loses it, most businessmen are self-entitled dirtbags anyway, in my experience.
So he is probably not quite as innocent as is being painted above (my subjective opinion, not up for debate).

If I was ever accused of domestic violence or sexual assult but was innocent (I have never and would never) i would not want my name released. I think people in general think where there's smoke, there's fire. It could cause a good amount of damage especially if you're in a position where reputation is quite important, as I am

Then what is the problem?
He didn't have name suppression before, so it isn't being taken from him by our 'wimmin biased' justice system.
If he wants name suppression that's for him to get his lawyer to advocate for.
Problem solved.
We don't have another case of an unbalanced justice system afterall.
Cool, all is right with the world.

Agree, biased as fuck. Many thousands of dollars to prove you're not guilty. She should have to pay his court costs.
Any case like this leaves many people thinking he's likely to be at fault just because it's male v female. It can harm your private relationships as well as business.

Yeah and if the name is released and he is found not guilty how many still think he did it? Aka Polky and OJ as just two examples.

Mind you I was clamouring for the accused name to be released in the Grace Millane murder. And what a weirdo fantasist that guy was.

So name suppression, no name suppression there will be people who will always be unhappy with the Judges decision.
