Finding a good, SW friendly accountant when I was beginning and had someone to ask all my stupid questions to was a game changer. Once I felt I had a grasp on how it all worked, I switched to doing it all through the HNRY app and it's so easy! I still have a mini heart attack whenever I get an email from the IRD though, the tax man scares me.

Hey! Imo I would just look elsewhere if the price doesn't line up with your expectations. There can be a number of reasons why the price may not be what you'd anticipated such as the worker not typically being a fan of longer bookings or they find PSE particularly taxing. Whatever the reason, it's her right to charge whatever she thinks it's worth to her but it's also your right if you'd rather find a worker that offers the service at a price you'd feel is more reasonable for the service.

I think asking about a potential discount once the provider has given you her final price, even when done politely as you seem to, has a strong chance to set you off on a bad foot with the provider. We know that our prices don't reflect our worth as people, and that the price at hand is for a service we provide not us as people, but it can still come across as being told what we are worth.

This is one reason why I am a strong advocate for having a very clear pricing structure listed on my ad though, especially for longer bookings. It is what it is, if it's within a clients budget they can get in touch and if it's not they and they haggle they get [generic prewritten reply saying stop haggling please dickhead in corporate email speak].

Thanks for the detailed reply more than what I was expecting.

Your last paragraph is great to hear from a worker and not one that is not said that often. As a some percentage of asking for discounts and worse haggling must come from it.

Question was brief on purpose with tad of laziness could have expanded so missing some context.

I don’t have an expectation, anticipated closer and comes from experience of hindsight and conversations had. Plus a bit of banter with those I know well enough whose slight hustle I found endearing.

Just had a look and your pricing is very clear. So much easier if you like longer bookings and you can see a SWer offers them and the rates shows they don’t mind them.

I have paid rates in the past where the SWer has given a price on the chance I’ll pay it. Sometimes it’s the question mark after the price gives it away.
